Its a beautiful place. Filled with spirituality. People often perform their pujas and rituals here. They bathe here but I think its really not taken care of. There's so much of litter and garbage in and around the water. Cleanliness is needed. Visit this place early morning or evening time.

4/ 5

One of the serene and oldest places of Mumbai. Used to be the heart of hindu culture not only of Walkeshwar but of entire South Mumbai. Lake is not so big but the atmosphere is really different than the usual rush of Mumbai. One can visit a range of old temples situated on the perimeter of the lake. Banganga has its name from a small incidence in the epic Ramayana. Currently most of the property including the lake is under the Gaud Saraswatas. Thought this is one of the heritage site, no strict measures have taken fir the safety of the place. The sculptures belonging to this place look older than the history they have mentioned for them.Nevertheless my friends recently have seen group of people doing drugs on the stairs of lake. Also some morons feed processed breads to the ducks and other marine animals. The good thing is they have the Banganga festival every year and provide a great opportunity for art lovers.

5/ 5

The Tank was built in the 1127 AD, by Lakshman Prabhu, a minister in the court of Silhara dynasty kings of Thane.[2][3] It was rebuilt in 1715 AD, out of a donation for the Walkeshwar Temple by Rama Kamath.[4] The main temple, has been reconstructed since then and is at present a reinforced concrete structure of recent construction.

I would suggest going here really early morning or evenings. the place is beautiful. However, as usual many of us keep littering the place, so let us keep our India Clean. During a yearly festival the entire area is lit up and beautiful. Date must be checked before going. I also love to sit here on some lazy afternoons, watching kids jumping into the water, beautiful swans, kids playing cricket. Ek baar zaroor jao... more details on my insta account albatraoz_stories
