This is a new place in creation. The old building known as South Palace, will be known as Shankumugham Art Museum. People who come to the beach will have an opportunity to see current world class paintings selected and displayed in the rooms. Nominal fees are charged for seeing them, which will help the corporation run the place. Well lit and well maintained place. It may help turn the beach into an extended night life, which Thiruvananthapuram City miss and lack.

5/ 5

Shanghumugham Art Museum, devoted to the promotion of contemporary visual arts, is the first of its kind in the state, as it functions under the auspices of the Mu-nicipal Corporation of Thiruvananthapuram. Facing the beautiful Arabian sea, the museum is located at the famous Shanghumugham beach. South Palace (Thekke Kottaram), as it was formerly known as, was originally used as a short-time resting place of erstwhile Tranvancore royal family during the arattu festival held once a year. Since the formation of Indian Republic, it has been under the disposal of the Muncipal Corporation. Now it is converted to art museum with modern facility re-quired for showcasing works of art. Shanghumugham Art Museum wishes to func-tion and develop as an important centre for contemporary art practices with a view to widen the frontiers of our artistic culture through the participation of larger audi-ence to keep contemporary art and culture more meaningful, more active.
